With the warm weather finally coming in, the trees also awake from hibernation and are keen to absorb some rays of light. Lots of deciduous trees in the Niseko area and it creates some quite stunning colours and views. This photo is taken from the Niseko Green Farm overlooking the river valley and the Hirafu ski resort in the back ground. There is still quite some snow on the top on the mountain.   Share on Facebook

Today HAJET Outreach Project in association with Groove Cycles held its third Niseko/Kutchan BBQ Bike Ride Bonanza! The event raised 80,000 yen for the people of Iwate prefecture still living in relief shelters. (click on the images to view them at a larger sizes)

Each participant paid 3,000 yen which included a BBQ after the ride with the remainder of the cash going to the relief fund.

The group of 20 + riders set off from Hirafu just after 10 and cruised up past Hanazono to the Weiss Hotel about 14km’s away.

The support team were EVERYWHERE ! cheers

The return leg of the ride back to Hirafu was a bit easier – mainly downhill.

Alistair really out did himself by garnering the support of some friends to make the event happen, motivating some participants and the end of the day turning on a treat of an event for a great cause …oh’ and the food was delicious.

Way to go !!!

A beautiful day today, so i took a drive out to my favourite spot for Mt. Yotei shots... today I included a stone (possibly quartz) statue in the forground to add a little Japan-esqueness to the shot... for anyone wondering if if's safe to visit Japan... YES it is and there has never been a threat here in Hokkaido... come visit us! Hokkaido has the best seafood, and wonderful nature.

Nursery time at NGF. Looking after many little baby plants. It is a bit of a delicate job. These little fellows don’t need much but some light, water and fertilizer, but to get the balance right for good growth is a bit harder.        

Once the plants are established and the first true leaves are appearing life goes pretty quick for these jalapenos. they will be producing their first fruit in two months time.             We had a bit of a late start, but late May early June we will have seedlings for sale as well.  But for outdoor planting that is right on time for Hokkaido. With the snow melting, the previous year emerges again from hibernation. Root vegetables that have spend almost half a year under the snow and dug up now, taste amazingly sweet and delicious. This pumpkin couldn't withstand the pressure of some 9 metres of snow.

Some nice miserable weather in April. Many cold and cloudy days. The recent rain helped to get rid of most of the snow and now we areWatching the snow melt away finally on our fields. Hopefully it will not rain too much in the on coming weeks, so we can start with fertilizing our fields for another year of vegetable  growing. Share on Facebook

Spring has rolled around for another year and I thought it would be fun to make a 4 spot virtual tour of the Spring Park in Hirafu. This virtual tour is made from 98 shots so it took a while to put together. Click on the red icons to move around the park. Still a few weeks left of good skiing and riding on the mountain.
